Hyderabad: Eight-year-old Mansvini lives in others
Hyderabad: Eight-year old Mansvini’s body was donated by her grandparents for medical education to the Osmania Medical College on July 25 as the family met with an accident near Nizamabad. The father died on the spot and the mother is seriously injured.
The family took a courageous decision as there are a large number of doctors in the extended family who were of the opinion that the body must be donated to science.
Mansvini along with her father Gopinath and mother Rupa hail from Siddipet and had gone for Godavari Pushkarlu. They met with an accident in Dichpally, Nizamabad on July 22. K. Venkateshwarlu, paternal grandfather said, “We lost the child and decided to donate the body to science so that medical students can benefit from it. We want the Osmania Medical College, anatomy department to use the body for teaching purpose. We have 22 post-graduate doctors in our family and understand how the medical fraternity is struggling with teaching anatomy. This tragedy has shaken all of us deeply but we still took the decision to donate as she is finally going to be of great use to science.”
The child was declared brain dead as there were internal injuries due to the impact of the accident.
Mansvini’s paternal family was greatly relieved when the maternal side gave their consent immediately. The Jeevandan office of the state government took signatures of five relatives on both sides for confirming the body donation. At the same time, five organs two kidneys, liver and two heart valves were also donated once she was declared brain dead.
Mr A. Kedarnath, maternal grandfather said, “I have lost my son-in-law and also the child. The idea that her body will be of help to medical students was a motivation for us to donate it. We are in deep grief with two members of the family dead and my daughter Rupa in a serious condition in Yashoda Hospital.”
