Govt starts cleaning up SmartCity Kochi area
A decision has to be taken at the government level on the Anganawadi

Kochi: The district administration which was in the dock for its failure to act on the complaints of encroachments in and around the SmartCity has finally got cracking. It has evicted all minor encroachments in the land earmarked for the project as well as on a 4.5 km stretch on the banks of Kadambrayar river.
“In the first phase, we have removed all the encroachments except of those who have a court injunction and an Anganawadi which was constructed by the Thrikkakara municipality,” Fort Cochin sub-collector S Suhas said.
“A decision has to be taken at the government level on the Anganawadi.” At a review meeting last on the progress of the prestigious Smart City project last week, officials of TECOM had complained that their representations on encroachments to the government had gone unattended.
Fencing the smart city areas are in progress, Mr Suhas said. “We have also cleaned up the Kadambrayar on the Smart City stretch.” The temporary bridge built across the river to transport building matrials will be removed once the constriction was over. Mr Suhas also said the government will take steps to ensure that the local residents have sufficient transport facilities.
Meanwhile the public works department has started the work on four-laning the 4-km road from Edachira to Brahmapuram ands runs between Smart City and Infopark.
‘We are planning to complete the work before August 31,” said a PWD official. “The blacktopping of the road from IMG to Edachira will be taken up once the monsoon is over.”
