BJP keen to break logjam for GST Bill
New Delhi: In a bid to break the logjam in Parliament, efforts are on by the ruling BJP to convene an all-party meet on Monday. After refusing to take action against its controversial ministers, the BJP has also begun hectic back-channel talks with the Opposition parties to find a “middle path”, a senior BJP functionary said. The BJP is concerned that the GST (goods and services tax) Bill could become a casualty if it fails to break the impasse.
Top BJP leaders, including M. Venkaiah Naidu, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Arun Jaitley, are holding parleys with parties like the Trinamul, NCP, BJD and the SP. The leaders are also speaking to Congress MPs. The BJP is in a hurry to break the logjam as the government intends to pass the GST Bill in this Session.
A BJP minister told the Deccan Chronicle that the regional outfits were “not consistent”. While the SP is backing Sushma Swaraj, it trains gun against Vasundhara Raje and Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The Trinamul has been giving mixed signals. The BJD wants debate on Sushma, who on the other hand claimed on Saturday again that she had never sought travel papers for Lalit Modi.
