Being a glam doll has never been my priority: Remya Nambeesan
Remya says it were the Tamil and Telugu industries that accepted her first
Life has changed a lot for actress-singer Remya Nambeesan after Pizza. The pretty actress, who’s currently riding on the success of the Arulnidhi-starrer Naalu Policeum Nalla Irundha Oorum (NPNIO) looks way more confident these days — and Remya says she didn’t think twice before accepting this film.
“I am comfortable playing typical girl-next-door roles. Though I wanted to break free from my homely girl image, I was quite convinced with the script and what excites me first is the story,” she says. “The team was also very co-operative. For me, what counts the most is the scope of the character. When I sign a project, I mostly go by my gut feeling and see if I would be able to do complete justice to the role — but I’m open to any role, which I feel I can portray confidently,” adds Remya.
Though she started off in Malayalam, Remya says it were the Tamil and Telugu industries that accepted her first. “Obviously I am more at home doing Malayalam films. But it is the other languages that offered me more opportunities and recognised me as an artiste,” she tells DC.
Remya will yet again team up with Vijay Sethupathi for director Arun Kumar’s next film, and the Kullanari Kootam actress adds that she’s waiting for a character with grey shades to sink her teeth into again — as she did very well in Pizza.
“I don’t mind doing that kind of character again. Be it Tamil or Malayalam cinema, both industries are undergoing a sea change. These days, we are opening up to fresh and experimental films, and exploring the possibilities of new dimensions,” she quips.
“Being a glam doll is never my priority, but if I am being offered solid village-belle roles, I have no qualms taking them on,” she smiles.
So, what does Remya do when she’s not shooting? “I hit the gym on a regular basis and I thrive on proteins. I've a personal trainer, who takes extra care with my makeup, hairstyle and costumes,” signs off the diva.
