Ramadoss distributed saplings to students to highlight the need for protecting environment
Chennai: “There’s only one solution to the present problems that the state is facing and that is change. The people who have most power to introduce change are the youth.” said Anbumani Ramadoss, a former Union minister.
Speaking at Meenakshi College here, he took a few jibes at the present government, He said instead of focussing on issues that really affected the city, the government was spending its time ‘opening liquor shops’. Dr Ramadoss talked about how Chennai should have gotten its metro 30 years ago compared to other cities.
The event was organised by Lions Clubs to honour K.S. Lakshmi, the college secretary and social worker for her lifetime achievement.
On environmental issues plaguing the city, he said 40 years ago people would drink water from the Cooum. Now, people could not even walk near it.
Stressing his oft-repeated point banning alcohol and tobacco, the PMK’s CM candidate, said the presence of Tasmac outlets was the reason why videos of children drinking were going viral. There should be prohibition in Tamil Nadu.
On the visit of Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, Dr Ramadoss said it was good.
He also mentioned that if he were to come to power he would allot a separate budget for farmers and also shut down illegal quarries in the state.
