Pinarayi Vijayan for unity of secular forces
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan has said that communal organisations mobilising people on religious lines are the biggest threat to the secular fabric of the state.
The CPM leader said his party did not believe that only it could fight such communal and fundamentalist forces.
“We are passing through a phase which requires unity, cutting across political ideologies. Only such a unity can check the assault of communal forces on our secular and democratic polity,” he said in a Facebook post.
The CPM has zero tolerance towards all types of communalism and fundamentalism. The communal situation is likely to worsen further considering the developments taking place in the country.
On the one hand, the communal forces have to be kept at bay and on the other, the neo-liberal policies which are heaping miseries on the people have to be fought, he said, and added that both needed to be defeated collectively.
He said the CPM was committed to mobilising people to fight the twin danger. After having understood the imminent threat from communal forces, more people will have to be rallied, cutting across narrow political and ideological differences. “Our party will work towards building and strengthening such unity,” he added.
Mr Vijayan hit out at certain community organisations which were straying from the path shown by the founders and pushing the people into the trap of communal outfits.
He accused the UDF government of hobnobbing with the communal and caste groups for electoral gains.
