LDF govt had hired senior lawyers: VS Achuthanandan
Thiruvananthapuram: Many eyebrows have been raised over a statement of Opposition Leader V. S. Achuthanandan in the Assembly that the previous LDF government had sought the services of senior lawyers from Delhi on some cases as the Advocate- General was not able to handle those cases.
“Government can seek the services of senior lawyers if the AG was found to be incompetent to handle serious cases. LDF government had hence sought the services of senior lawyers in some cases,” Mr. Achuthanandan said. His remark came while speaking after the Speaker rejected the adjournment motion.
It may be recalled that M.K. Damodaran, who was the AG during the term of the LDF government, had taken a stand in favour of former CPM state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan in the SNC-Lavalin case.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister K.M. Mani said that the previous LDF government had spent Rs. 1.62 crore for the services of lawyers from outside.
