Delay in fund transfer to hit cancer care scheme
KOZHIKODE: The delay in fund transfer from the state government has hit the commencement of work of the Tertiary Cancer Centre scheme at the Medical College Hospital (MCH) here.
It will adversely affect the release of the second instalment of funds from the Centre and Medical Council of India’s (MCI) clearance at various stages of implementation.
Though the state has transferred the first instalment of the fund, Rs 25.03 crore, on March 30, it could not be used as it was the end of the financial year.
Thus, the fund was returned and till date it was not released in the new financial year even after several reminders.
The fund was for the purchase equipment and construction activities under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) scheme of the Union ministry of health and family welfare.
The equipment includes high-energy linear accelerator (Rs 17 crore), two modular theatres (Rs 2 crore each), CT scan stimulator (Rs 6 crore) and SPECT Gamma Camera accessories (Rs 4 crore).
Of the total Rs 44.5 crore set aside for the scheme, the state has to bear 33.33 per cent (Rs 8.34 crore).
The Centre will release the rest of the fund only after receiving the utilisation certificate of the first installment.
According to Kozhikode lawmaker M.K. Raghavan, the first installment had been kept at e-ledger and the same would be handed over to MCH soon.
