Bengaluru: Woman on balcony hit by power cable, falls to death
BENGALURU: In a freak accident, a 30-year-old woman died on the spot, after she was hit by a snapped high tension power cable, while she was standing in her first floor balcony of her house in AMS Layout in Vidyaranyapura police station limits on Friday.
The incident happened around 5.30 pm when the woman, identified as Ganga and hailing from Rajasthan, was watching the KPTCL workers install a power line near her house.
A pulley broke and the high tension wire snapped. It fell on the victim’s neck and pulled her down to the ground from balcony. She sustained grievous head injuries and was rushed to M.S. Ramaiah Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The body was later shifted for post-mortem, the police said.
“It is not a case of electrocution as the lines are just being installed. It was due to the snapped line that came around the victim’s neck pulling her down to the ground resulting in grievous head injuries and her death,” said a senior police officer.
Ganga has five children and her husband runs a fancy store in the area. A case of death due to negligence has been registered at the Vidyaranyapura police station and the investigations are underway.
