The accused has been identified as Kalappurakkal Thomas of Chalikkavattom
KOCHI: A 50-year old autorikshaw driver was arrested by the Palarivattom police on Friday for sexually assaulting a four and half year old LKG student.
The accused has been identified as Kalappurakkal Thomas of Chalikkavattom. Thomas allegedly sexually abused the child 10 days ago while taking her to school. The victim used to travel to the school in the autorikshaw of the accused every day.
Thomas was held by a police team led by North circle inspector PS Shiju and Palarivattom sub-inspector MK Sajeev. According to the police, the matter came to the notice of the parents after the child showed physical discomfort and also declined to travel in the vehicle of the accused.
The kid informed the teachers about the assault after she was admitted in the hospital. The teachers then informed child line workers and the child also informed them of the incident when they counseled her. The parents then filed a complaint before the women police cell and a case was registered.
The accused, a father of three children aged 20, 17 and eight years of age, was subjected to medical examination. A court has remanded the accused to judicial custody.
