Learnt a lot on the sidelines: Amit Mishra
Chennai: It’s a season of comebacks. After Harbhajan Singh, now it’s the turn of leg-spinner Amit Mishra. Earlier this week, Mishra said he wasn’t desperate and that his focus was to keep improving as a bowler. Three days later, Mishra has been handed a ticket to the tour of Sri Lanka.
The 32-year-old, who last played a Test for India in 2011, said: “I’m not really thinking about making the playing XI. I’m glad to have made the squad and whenever my opportunity comes I will want to make the most of it.”After stating the tour to the island nation will pose a tough challenge, Mishra said not being part of the Indian team for four years has made him understand many aspects of his bowling.
“My thought process about the game has changed a lot. I read the match situations better now. I’m able to analyse the nature of the wickets and outthink the batsmen,” he added. A glance at numbers in the recent past indicate that Sri Lanka hadn’t coped well against the leg-spin of Pakistan’s Yasir Shah, who claimed 24 wickets in three Tests. Does that infuse confidence in him? “If someone else performs well, it wouldn’t definitely matter much. I’m confident about myself. It’s about mastering the conditions out there and bowling according to the situation,” said Mishra.
