No complaints against Rishiraj Singh: Ramesh Chennithala

The notice pointed out that Mr Singh's behaviour did not suit a person holding a high position

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Thursday sought to distance himself from the show-cause notice issued to Mr Rishiraj Singh, ADGP (Armed Police Battalions), by the home department, saying that he had no complaints against the officer.

Replying to questions, he said that all-India civil service officers came under the chief minister who had directed the home department to issue the show-cause notice following complaints from the UDF legislators.

He said this was only part of an official procedure. “I have reiterated that I don’t have any complaint against the officer. There is no change in my stand,” he added.

The home department on Wednesday issued the show-cause notice to Mr Singh asking him to explain why action should not be taken against him for not saluting the home minister when he arrived for the passing-out parade at the Police Academy in Thrissur on July 11.

The notice pointed out that Mr Singh's behaviour did not suit a person holding a high position. It is the duty of police officers to respect the elected people’s representatives, it said.

Meanwhile, Mr Singh, who had been asked to give a reply at the earliest, had not submitted his version till late evening on Thursday.
