More water in Godavari
Water level in the Godavari is rising steadily providing relief to devotees
Rajahmundry: Water level in the Godavari is rising steadily providing relief to devotees at some places downstream. Irrigation authorities said the water level at the Sir Arthur Cotton barrage at Dowleswaram was 10.9 feet with a discharge of 56,902 cusecs downstream. Out of it, about 5,500 cusecs will be diverted to Central, Eastern and Western delta areas through canals for farmers.
The authorities maintain that following rainfall in the catchment areas of the river, there is steady inflow into the river and levels may rise in the days ahead. The authorities drew nearly 12,000 cusecs from Seeleru to ensure adequate water in the river.
Out of about 262 bathing ghats located in both the districts, nearly 40 ghats located in the central portion of the downstream river from Dowleswaram barrage to Antarvedi where the river empties into the sea, are facing shortage of water.
Irrigation SE S. Sugunakar Rao said, "As we are getting steady inflow into the river we are releasing a good quantum of water downstream from the barrage to ensure good levels at some ghats for devotees."
