THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: General Education secretary V.S. Senthil has been asked to prepare a feasibility report on the setting up of a state-run higher secondary school in the Gulf for the benefit of poor non-resident Keralites. This was announced in the Assembly on Thursday by education minister P K Abdu Rabb.
The minister, however, said that there were legal, administrative and practical hurdles for setting up of a school in a foreign country.
“Moreover, it has been found that the number of children in schools run by Malayalis is falling. Given such a context, it is feared that a school with Kerala syllabus will not have much takers,” Mr Rabb said.
The issue was raised in the Assembly as a submission by Congress member Anwar Sadath. “Even the schools run by Malayalis are charging exorbitant fees, making it difficult for poor non-resident Keralites to admit their students in such schools,” Mr Sadath said.
