18,000 runners warm up for Hyderabad Marathon
Hyderabad: Around 18,000 people are expected to run in the 5th edition of the Hyderabad Marathon on August 30. Organized by Hyderabad Runners, the marathon will have a total prize purse of Rs 7.5 lakh.
Director of the race, Dr Murali Nannapaneni, said, “The number of participants increased from 1,000 in the first edition to 10,000 in 2014; this year we are expecting it to touch 18,000. Registrations without advertisements have touched 7000 as on today (Thursday).
“In this edition, we have focused on significantly increasing runner safety and amenities, course entertainment and volunteers, as well as the overall experience. For the first time in the Hyderabad Marathon, the fifth edition will host a three-day Marathon Expo, this is to encourage people to take up sports. The Expo will be conducted before August 30.”
Around 42.195 km of road will be closed for six hours on the race day. This includes the road leading to the Governor’s residence (Raj Bhavan Road) and the flyover near the CM’s Camp Office.
The Hyderabad marathon is the only one in India that has three flyovers en route and several rolling hills, making it the toughest road race.
The route circles the Hussainsagar Lake before moving through the residential and commercial hub of Panjagutta/Somajiguda, passing through the KBR National Park, Jubilee hills and then cuts through the IT hub and culminates at the GHMC Balayogi Stadium.
Details of the marathon: The fifth edition of Hyderabad Marathon will have five different categories – Full; Half; 10K; 5K; 3K
Hyderabad Runners are offering free technical dry fit t-shirts to all participants.
A discount is been offered to participants of previous editions, 10 per cent for each year of participation.
The race will start at People’s Plaza, Necklace Road and finish inside the GMC Balayogi Stadium, Gachibowli.
The event will be held on Sunday, 30th August.
The event will have more than 200 medical centers, 25 aid stations and over 3000 volunteers
Entry Fee: Fee for the Full Marathon will be Rs 1200 per person
The Half Marathon will be of 21.1 km and its registration fee will also be Rs 1200
10K: Rs 800 per entry
5K and 3K: Rs 300 per entry
3K and 5K run will be held on Saturday, August 29, while the 10K, Full and Half Marathon will be held on August 30
