Telangana: 39 trafficked women rescued

A team of over 100 cops from Telangana acted on this tip-off
Hyderabad: The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Telangana and the Maharashtra police raided a brothel in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra and rescued 39 trafficked women. The cops arrested over 40 traffickers.
A raid was conducted at around 2:30 am on Wednesday on the Gautam Nagar brothel and cops rescued the women: 24 from Telangana, five from Andhra Pradesh and the remaining from Maharashtra, Karnataka and other states.
Besides this, over 40 traffickers and others connected with the racket, out of which 20 were men were arrested, confirmed SP Venugopal who headed the rescue operation.
“The 40 traffickers are from Telangana and they will be brought here and presented in court. Two of the traffickers were presented in front of the court in Chandrapur already. Eight out of the 39 victims of trafficking are minors and six minors belong to Telangana,” Mr K. Satyanarayana, of the Telangana CID confirmed.
The Telangana police received a complaint that a prostitution racket is trapping women in Chandrapur in the name of offering employment.
A team of over 100 cops from Telangana acted on this tip-off and rescued the women who had fallen into the trap of the traffickers. The team went to Chandrapur in three buses and eight other vehicles.
“A 15-member team from the Chandrapur police participated in the raids on the brothel. The minors were presented before the Child Welfare Committee,” said SDPO Chandrapur division officer P.R. Giri.
