A four year old boy drowned in a swimming pool at the Mantri Residency

Bengaluru: A four year old boy drowned in a swimming pool at the Mantri Residency Apartments on Bannerghatta Road near Meenakshi Mall, on Monday afternoon after he lost his balance and fell in.

The boy was cycling around the pool. Vikhyath was the only son of Belagavi-based couple Abhijeet Deshpande and his wife, Pallavi, both of whom were at work in ITPL at the time of the tragedy.

A police officer said “While Vikhyat was cycling near the pool, security guards of the apartment had asked him not to venture near the pool. Vikyath’s parents have stated however that the housekeeping staff were not by the pool.”

The death of four-year-old Vikhyath at the swimming pool in Mantri Residency Apartments on Bannerghatta Road is not first sucn incident. Here is a list of similar incidents involving children.

  • April 10: Siddarth Nambiar, 10, died while swimming as his hand got stuck between pressure pipes in the swimming pool in Purva Sun Shine apartment in Kaigondanahalli on Sarjapur Main Road
  • April 10: Gautham, 13, drowned in a pool of a private school while learning swimming in Chunchaghatta in South Bengaluru
  • May 2014: 14-year-old Suryakanth , son of a labourer from Wilson Garden drowned in a resort on Banerghatta Road after he went on a picnic with his parents.
  • February 2012: Sabrina, (12) a class VI student drowned in a pool at Wonderla Amusement Park near Bidadi. Sabrina, had gone for a school outing. Police said the incident took place when the children went back to play after lunch. Sabrina was playing in the WavePool when she slipped and drowned.
