Five more farmers killed themselves on Tuesday while two are battling for life

Tumakuru, Mysuru, Hubballi: There is no end to the spree of suicides the state has been witnessing in recent months. Five more farmers killed themselves on Tuesday while two are battling for life after suicide attempts.

A farmer, 40-year-old Suresh committed suicide by consuming poison in Kolar. He borrowed Rs 4 lakh from moneylenders to dig a borewell which failed to yield water. Another farmer committed suicide by hanging at Kunigal taluk in Tumakuru.

The deceased, 30-years-old Raju, a resident of Honnegowdana Doddi in Huliyurdurga hobli of Kunigal had taken Rs 2 loan from Cauvery Grammeena Bank and Rs 3 lakh from moneylenders to dig a borewell.

Villagers alleged that he committed suicide because of the Cauvery Bank notice and demanded the filing of a criminal case against bank officials. A tobacco farmer committed suicide by consuming poison in Hassan.

Chandre Gowda, 47, a resident of Javarikoppalu village, Hassan was admitted to hospital where he died on Tuesday. In Mandya, 45-year-old Mahendra committed suicide by consuming poison Monday night.

Mahendra had borrowed Rs 2.5 lakh from Grameena Bank and Rs 1 lakh as a personal loan. Fifty-two-year-old Bommegowda attempted suicide by consuming poison at Chamalapura in Kergod police station limits.

He owned 30 guntas land and cultivated sugarcane. In another incident, 23-year-old Ravinayka attempted suicide by consuming poison at BM Halli in HD Kote taluk. In Ballari, farmer Mallaiah committed suicide in Kappagal village.
