Defamation case filed against Subramanian Swamy by Jayalalithaa
Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Tuesday filed another defamation case, this time against the BJP leader Subramanian Swamy for carrying malicious content in his Twitter account recently. On behalf of Chief Minister, city public prosecutor M.L. Jegan filed the complaint before the Principal Sessions court.
In the petition, Jegan submitted that Swamy had published malicious content in his twitter account Subramanian Swamy@Swamy39 on July 13 in connection with the health of the Chief Minister. This was published with an intention to harm the her reputation. Hence, Swamy must be punished for an offence under section 500 IPC.
The complaint is expected to come up before the Principal Sessions Judge N. Authinathan soon.Meanwhile, the judge has issued summons to TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan to appear before the court on August 21, for allegedly making remarks against the Chief Minister.
He has also summoned the Editor and Publisher of Tamil bi-weekly, Nakkeeran, R. Gopal and associate editor A. Kamaraj for publishing a defamatory content in the edition dated July 19. They should appear on August 27.
