Bengaluru: Three held for accepting bribe

As Swamy was not willing to pay the bribe money, he lodged a complaint

BENGALURU: A village accountant, village assistant and a private party were arrested by the Bengaluru City Lokayukta police after they were trapped receiving a bribe amount of Rs 80,000 from a person. Yateesh Kumar, Village Accountant of Anjanapura Circle, Uttarahalli hobli in Bengaluru South Taluk, Muniyappa, Village Assistant, Uttarahalli hobli and Venkatachala, their alleged agent were the accused.

According to the police, N. Narayana Swamy, a resident of Marutinagar in Sonnenahalli village in Kengeri approached the Lokayukta police and lodged a complaint stating that he intended to buy two acres of land at Gollahalli village in Uttarahalli hobli from a person belonging to scheduled caste. Accordingly, he applied for permission from the DC office. To recommend his proposal, Yateesh Kumar and Muniyappa demanded a bribe of Rs 2 lakh and after negotiations settled for Rs 80,000.

“As Swamy was not willing to pay the bribe money, he lodged a complaint. A case was registered and a trap was laid on Tuesday. Venkatachala, a private person acting as their agent, was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe on behalf of Yateesh and Muniyappa. All the three accused have been arrested and produced before the Lokayukta Judge,” the police added.
