Telangana government allocates Rs 10 crore for Bonalu fest

Hyderabad: After Pushkaralu and Ramzan, it is now going to be state festival Bonalu. The Telangana government has decided to celebrate Bonalu in a big way. All Mahankali temples in Hyderabad would be illuminated and clean environs ensured at all temples.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao sanctioned Rs 10 crore for Bonalu celebrations in the twin cities. The two-month Bonalu festival began from July 19 at Golconda. The festival will be celebrated at the century-old Ujjaini Mahankali on August 2 and 3. It will be followed by celebrations in the odl city August 9 and 10 and at other temples across the city.
For the first time, the endowments department and GHMC would jointly oversee the festivities. Mr Rao constituted a five-member committee of ministers headed by home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy and comprising A. Indrakaran Reddy, Mohd. Mahmood Ali and T. Padma Rao, to oversee the arrangements for the state festival.
The Chief Minister asked ministers and senior officials including chief secretary Rajiv Sharma, GHMC commissioner Somesh Kumar, and Hyderabad police commissioner P. Mahender Reddy to make elaborate arrangements for Bonalu. He instructed the endowments department to release Rs 5 crore and GHMC Rs 5 crore for the festival arrangements.
“The CM instructed GHMC to ensure drinking water and other basic needs at all temples besides ensuring cleanliness during the jatra,” a government spokesman said. On invitation from minister T. Srinivas Yadav, the Chief Minister has decided to participate in pujas at the Yellamma temple at Balkampet on Tuesday.
