Prathyusha suffering from mild depression
The report has been submitted by the hospital to the police
Hyderabad: Latest psychometry tests on 19-year-old Prathyusha indicate that she is suffering from panic disorder and mild depression. The report has been submitted by the hospital to the police. Dr N. Ravindra, senior consultant, critical care, said, “The external wounds are healing and there are no signs of infection. Her vitals are stable and she is being treated with a few medicines and is on a normal diet.”
But she is still very frightened and is not willing to stay alone. He added, “She keeps on thinking about her past and for her to be confident again, she will require therapy. We are treating her with anxiolytic drugs and care.” The hospital is getting a lot of donations, which has now touched Rs 1,63,650.
Girls made to work in state homes:
“It has been three months since I was put in this home after being rescued by the cops. If ma’am thinks we are misbehaving, she pours chilli powder in our private parts,” whispers a 15-year-old who has been housed at a state home for girls.
“I don’t want to stay here. This is far worse than the house where I used to work,” said one girl. Another added, “I want to go back to my hometown. I have given the phone numbers, but the authorities haven’t allowed me to speak to them.” The Government Children Home for Girls, Nimboliadda, houses victims of trafficking, children rescued from child labour, those who ran away from home and others. Around 50 of them were chopping vegetables when DC visited the home.
“They eat the food, so why can’t they cut vegetables and speed up the process?” was the explanation of one of the caretakers. “We are made to do all the work: cleaning the house, bathrooms, dining halls etc.,” the girls said. In a dormitory that has 58 beds, 108 girls are housed. Out of the 12 bathrooms, only three are in “usable” condition.
Prameela, the person in-charge for security said, “We need at least 10 more people to manage this home. I am in-charge of ensuring that no one runs away.” The in-charge director of the home said, “I will ensure that no child is made to work again. This is not acceptable and I will initiate action immediately.”
Prathyusha case: HC bench impleads AP
A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt of the Hyderabad High Court on Monday impleaded the Andhra Pradesh government as one of the parties to a PIL taken up by the court to render justice to 19-year-old Prathyusha. While dealing with the case taken up based on a letter by Justice Challa Kodanda Ram, seeking the court’s intervention to render justice to the victim, the bench asked the AP advocate general whether there were victims of parents’ torture in AP.
The bench said, “It is unfortunate that the ‘Right to Live’, a fundamental right guaranteed under the Constitution, is being violated... Most parents have been showing discrimination towards the girl child. Girls are leaving their houses due to this discrimination and are joining hostels, but they cannot continue even there due to inadequate and unhygienic conditions.”
Sharath Kumar, special counsel to the Telangana government, submitted that they were not able to produce Prathyusha before the court as ordered as the doctors had advised that she needed one more week treatment. The bench said, “Whenever she is discharged from hospital, the counsel has to ensure her presence.” The Telangana counsel said that the state government had been taking all steps for her treatment and also for her future. He said that the CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao had also visited the victim and assured her of providing all necessary help.
Reacting to the submissions of the counsel, the bench stated, “We have seen some of the news reports related to the visit of the CM and his assurances given to her… if those reports are true, we have got answers to all our concerns.” The counsel confirmed the news reports and said that the victim wanted to join a nursing course, but it would not be possible as she had not completed Intermediate. P. Venugopal, the advocate general of AP, submitted that he would get instructions from the government about the information sought by the court and asked for more time. The bench adjourned the case to July 27. Meanwhile ABHAYA, a NGO, has moved the court saying that it will take care of Prathyusha’s future.
