Rs 102.6 crore in 3 days, but cannot beat Baahubali
Bajrangi Bhaijaan seems to have put an end to Bollywood’s dry spell at the box office. Usually, Salman Khan’s name is assurance enough for people to visit a movie theatre. But with this film, the word of mouth has been so good that more viewers, which include those who don’t identify themselves as quintessential Salman fans, are willing to watch the film.
The film opened at Rs 27.25 crore, which is a great number for a non-holiday release. On Saturday, the film touched Rs 36.60 cr and on Sunday the collections rose to Rs 38.75 cr. Over the weekend the film shattered this year’s box office records (Hindi) by touching Rs 102.60 crores, making it the biggest film of 2015 so far.
Trends suggest that the film is most likely to cross Rs 200 crore within a week’s time. Also, this is Salman Khan’s eighth film that has touched this figure, making him the only actor in Hindi films to have achieved such a feat.
However, Baahubali continues to rule. The film (in four languages) collected approximately Rs 50 crores in India making it the highest day one collections for any film in the country. Over the weekend it managed more than Rs 100 crores leaving behind all the big movies of the Hindi film industry.
