Land Bill, could seek further extension in Monsoon session of the Parliament

The ordinance was promulgated for a third time on May 31

New Delhi: The joint committee of Parliament headed by BJP MP S.S. Ahluwalia, which is currently reviewing the Land Bill, could seek further extension, making it necessary for the government to re-promulgate the ordinance once again, agencies reported. The ordinance was promulgated for a third time on May 31.

Sources said further extensions may also be sought as the government does not want to bring the Bill before the Parliament until after the Bihar Assembly poll in September-October. Sources in the government see nothing unusual in the re-promulgation as at least 15 ordinances have been promulgated twice or more.

PM Modi calls meet today
==================

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called a meeting of BJP parliamentary party executive on Monday as the government and the ruling party firm up their strategy for the monsoon session of parliament, which is set to be stormy over the opposition demand for the resignation of many party leaders. The meeting will follow Mr Modi’s meet with all the NDA constituents, a first on the Session eve, and underlines the government’s resolve to put in place a strong defence against the opposition onslaught it is set to face in the session beginning from July 21. BJP has made it clear that it will not be on the defensive and instead target top Congress leaders over issues like Lalit Modi controversy.

No report on Lokpal Bill
===================

A parliamentary committee examining the Lokpal Bill will not submit its report during the upcoming Monsoon session and seek extension for a second time to complete the task. The 31-member Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, headed by Congress MP E M Sudarsana Natchiappan, is examining the Lokpal and Lokayuktas and Other Related Law (Amendment) Bill, 2014, which was introduced in Lok Sabha on December 18 last year. “We have time till July 30 to give our report. But there are very important and tricky issues that need to be discussed. There is a necessity to seek more time. We will write to Rajya Sabha chairman seeking more time,” Mr Natchiappan said.
