Konni girl still critical; lapses by local police come to light
Police team which probed the disappearance of the girls initially had made grave errors, sources said
THRISSUR: The condition of Arya K. Suresh, one of the three missing girls from Konni in Pathanamthitta district, found unconscious on the side of railway tracks near Shornur in Thrissur district and undergoing treatment in Thrissur Medical College hospital remained extremely critical.
A medial bulletin issued on Sunday by the medical board constituted to treat the girl has stated the brain of the girl is not functioning and she is not responding to medicines. Her pulse rate is also low, it added.
Two other girls, named Raaji and Athira, went missing along with Arya, died when all of them suspected to be jumped out from a running train near Shornur on Monday. The three Plus-Two students disappeared on July 9 after leaving their home on the pretext of attending tuition class.
The medical team treating Arya said the girl will continue on ventilator support for another 24 hours and after that, the team will evaluate her health condition. The team has also decided to increase the dose of antibiotic medicines to prevent pneumonia infection.
Police blamed: The police team which probed the disappearance of the girls initially had made grave errors, sources said. The failure of the local police surfaced when Uma Behra, Superintendent of Police now heading the probe team, visited Konni as part of the investigation on Sunday. Although the girls were present at Mavelikkara on the first day of their disappearance, the local police failed to inform the railway police or other agencies, sources said.
All these factors came to light as part of the investigation of Uma Behra. But, Uma Behra declined to comment on this issue. The SP had earlier visited the homes of the missing girls and took statements from the parents of the girls. The parents also reportedly complained about lackadaisical attitude shown by the local police in connection with the probe in the initial days.
VS blames police: Opposition leader V. S. Achuthanandan who visited the parents of the girls on Sunday, blamed the police and said that timely intervention of the police would have helped in averting the tragedy.
