Godavari Pushkaralu disrupts fishing
There is lot of demand for the fish caught in the Godavari, which is sold in Hyderabad
Khammam: The sudden drop in the catch of fish in the river Godavari is worrying hundreds of fishermen who live in various habitations on the river banks in Khammam district.
The lakhs of pilgrims descending on the river to take a holy dip during the Pushkaralu is stated to be the reason for the drop in the fishing yield. According to one count, about 30 lakh pilgrims have bathed in eight official and 75 unofficial Pushkar ghats in Khammam district over the past six days.
About 2,000 fishermen in 100 habitations in Pinapaka, Dummugudem, Charla, Burgumpahad, Manuguru, Venkatapuram, Bhadrachalam and Vazed mandals depending on fishing.
K. Appireddy, a fisherman at Bhadrachalam, said they had stopped entering the river to fish as there was no catch for the last four days. He said that he lost his source of income for the period.
