Fourth ordinance for land bill likely in monsoon session of the Parliament

The Land Bill is currently with the joint committee of the Parliament

New Delhi: Owing to the lack of political consensus on the crucial Land Acquisition Bill, there is a likelihood that it may not be presented during the forthcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament.

The Ordinance related to it may get repromulgated for an unprecedented fourth time, agency reports said quoting top government sources. “The Bill is unlikely to be brought before the Parliament in the Monsoon Session due to lack of consensus. Hence the only likely probability is its repromulgation,” sources said.

The Monsoon Session of Parliament is set to begin from July 21. The Land Bill is currently with the joint committee of the Parliament which is headed by BJP MP S.S. Ahluwalia. The panel plans to seek a two-week extension till August 3 to finalise its report on the controversial legislation. Indications are that the panel is unlikely to come out with its report during the Monsoon Session.
