ABVP threatens to protest against the hike in fees
Hyderabad: The BJP-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has drawn up a massive protest programme against the hike in fees for medical education in Telangana State and the filling up of management quota seats through a private medical colleges held entrance examination.
ABVP announced that it will disrupt the Telangana State Eamcet medical counselling to be scheduled to begin from July 29 if the decisions are not reversed.
The TS government had hiked fees for Category B seats from Rs 2.5 lakhs to Rs 9 lakhs and NRI quota Category C seats from Rs 5.5 lakhs to Rs 9 lakhs in May this year. Private medical colleges were also allowed to hold their own entrance exam to fill in the 35 per cent Category B management quota seats (through GO MS 39 dated May 20th). ABVP demanded the cancellation of the GO and reversal of the fee hike. ABVP state secretary J. Niranjan said, “We will protest at district collectorates on July 22 and a Chalo Secretariat on July 25 followed by protests in front of ministers’ houses. We will disrupt the medical counselling if our demands are not met.”
The timing of the ABVP protest programme is interesting considering the decisions on fee hike and private colleges’ own entrance were taken nearly two months ago.
