I love coming to chennai: Natasha Suri
Natasha Suri is a Mumbai mulgi but she says her heart is down south. The half-Punjabi, half-Telugu model, who is based in Mumbai, recalls coming to Hyderabad and Chennai either for family or work. “Despite my Punjabi roots, I have always loved coming to Hyderabad and Chennai. While Hyderabad is home, my mother’s roots being here, I have been coming to Chennai every year for more than five years for the fashion shows,” she says. The pretty lady, who won the Miss India World title in 2006, recently walked the ramp for ace designer Manoviraj Khosla at the Kingfisher Ultra Pondicherry Fashion Week that was held over the weekend. “I will be back next month for the seventh edition of Chennai International Fashion Week,” she informs.
While the hot model walked the ramp in western club wear for Khosla, she says that she loves wearing saris more than anything else. “My favourite attire in the whole wide world is a sari. I find it sensual and love to drape it in any and every way possible. A sari flatters the Indian woman’s figure more than any other garment,” she puts forth. She is absolutely in love with Kanjeevarams from Chennai. “I keep visiting Chennai every year for the fashion week. I love the bright and rich Kanjeevarams and make it a point to shop for them whenever I am here.”
Apart from modeling and doing ramp shows, Natasha has also been doing a lot of television shows. But ask her why haven’t we seen her on the big screen yet, especially since most pageant winners do move to films eventually, and she replies, “I did not take part in the Miss India pageant to work in Bollywood or any other industry. It was my mother’s dream that I participate, and I just fulfilled that. After being the first runner-up, I took up those offers that fell into my lap. I never pursued films with sweat and soul.”
But now she is willing to explore other avenues as well. “I think I would love to take up interesting projects in any film industry. The south film industry is churning out some really great films. Recently, I watched Baahubali and was floored by the kind of technology and graphics used! So yeah, if I get a good role and an interesting script, I will surely give south films a shot,” Natasha says on a concluding note.
