Colleges go back on reinspection plan In Telangana

73 colleges withdraw courses from inspection net

Hyderabad: After legally taking on JNTU-Hyderabad and the government, private engineering colleges are now shying away from re-inspections. The TRS government even offered the choice of re-inspections to colleges which had not gone to court but only seven colleges turned up.

Earlier, nearly 73 colleges withdrew one or more of their courses from the re-inspection net. JNTU-H, however, feels this is a testimony to the fairness of the inspections.

Both the single judge and the division bench of the Hyderabad HC ordered re-inspections of disaffiliated courses. But the division bench made a slight modification by including an expert member from JNTU-H in the three-member inspection teams, apart from AICTE experts.

The teams are also ready to verify documents pertaining to courses that have already been affiliated by JNTU-H again although that is expected to be rare going by the actions of the TSCHE.

Interestingly, private engineering colleges retreated only after the division bench judgement and not after the single judge order. Managements say the inclusion of JNTU experts in inspection teams has turned the game against colleges.

“Although 73 private engineering colleges have given letters of withdrawal, it doesn’t pertain to all branches. Some courses of some colleges are genuine cases which deserve to be affiliated,” the owner of a private college said. Another college owner revealed,

“Everyone thought if AICTE is inspecting, then they can be managed. But now JNTU members have also been included. It is better to have fewer affiliated seats than to have temporary affiliation seats which could dent the college’s image.”

JNTU-H, on the other hand, sees this as a vindication of their efforts. “We were portrayed as the villain. But we have done our work objectively. Colleges retreating now has vindicated our stand,” a senior JNTU-H official said.
