Suprabhata Row: RSS ups volume at Puttur
Mangaluru: After the volume of ‘Suprabhata’ at Kukke Subrhamanya shrine became an issue, saffron activists have taken up a similar issue at Puttur.
These leaders who allege that the volume of Suprabhata has been decreased at Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple in Puttur want the authorities to increase the volume. This is the second such demand after they wanted the volume to be increased at Kukke.
At Kukke Subrahmanya temple, though the volume of Suprabhata was reduced last month following complaints from some people (within the community), it was later increased after Sangh Parivar leaders staged a protest.
On Monday Sangh Parivar leaders submitted a memorandum to the Executive Officer of Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple and Assistant Commissioner of Puttur alleging that the volume of Suprabhata had gone down and requested the authorities to increase it. Sangh Parivar leaders claim they had placed the demand based on the request of people.
“Local people felt the volume of Suprabhata has been reduced and contacted us. Based on their request, we submitted a memorandum,” leader Arun Puttila said. Officials have however denied this and say that the volume was never decreased.
Progressive thinkers feel this is an unnecessary issue to be raked up. “If people wanted the volume of Suprabhata to be higher, they would have approached the authorities. Why should Sangh parivar leaders complain?,” DK Komu Sauhardha Vedike president Suresh Bhat said.
