Student petitions against dress code for entrance test

She submitted that the provisional admit card issued to her had stipulated a dress code

Kochi: A student appearing for all-India pre-medical/pre-dental entrance test-2015 on Friday approached the Kerala High Court against the dress code to be followed for the exam.

The petitioner, Nidha Raheem of Olavakode, Palakkad, expressed her apprehension that that if she wears the Hijab as part of her religious custom, she will not be permitted to appear in the exam. She submitted that the provisional admit card issued to her had stipulated a dress code.

The Central Board of Secondary Education has asked the candidates to come in half-sleeves shirt/T- shirt/ Kurta not having big buttons, brooch or any badge with trousers/ salwar etc and open slippers, instead of shoes.

“The petitioner being a person following the religion of Islam, she is obliged to observe and follow the Quaranic injunctions and the Sunnah of the Prophet embodied in the Hijab rule. Khumur and Jibab is the dress code prescribed by Quran and Suhhan,” the petition stated.

According to her, the stipulation of dress code is illegal and unconstitutional. She also sought a directive to permit her write the test without insisting on the dress code.
