Railways relaxes ID proof for tatkal group bookings

Passenger associations had termed the earlier norm as “too harsh and not feasible.”

Kochi: The Railways have relaxed the ID proof norm saying that only one of the passengers of a group has to carry the identity proof during journeys under the Tatkal scheme.

A circular to this effect was issued on July 14. So far, the passengers had to give the number and type of ID proof that they would carry during the journey at the time of internet booking itself.

The new order makes it clear that the passenger can produce any one of the nine ID proofs approved, including voter photo ID card issued by the Election Commission, passport, pancard, driving licence, Aadhar card and student ID card with photograph issued by recognised school/ college among others.

Passenger associations had termed the earlier norm as “too harsh and not feasible.” The relaxation comes even as the railways have allowed the transfer of confirmed railway tickets to the blood relations.

However, advance information should be given during reservation or before the chart is prepared. Besides, a proof for the relationship should also be submitted.
