Opposition’s bandh over GHMC strike fizzles out

Congress leaders had a breakfast meeting at GHMC chief D. Nagender’s residence
Hyderabad: The Telangana bandh called on Friday, by the entire Opposition for the first time, created no impact in the state other than Opposition parties taking up dharna programmes and courting arrest.
The bandh call, protesting against the government apathy towards non-resolution of the 12-day strike by municipal staff across the state, was given by the 10 Left parties, while the Congress, TDP, YSR Congress and the BJP supported it.
But due to lack of coordination among the parties and also due to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s announcement late on Thursday night regarding a 47 per cent hike in salaries for staff working in GHMC limits, the bandh fizzled out.
The Congress leaders had a breakfast meeting at Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee chief D. Nagender’s residence on Friday. It was attended by TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Leaders of Opposition K. Jana Reddy, etc.
