Hyderabad High Court convicts top officials
Hyderabad: Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Challa Kodanda Ram of the Hyderabad HC on Friday convicted several TS government officials including two IAS officers for contempt.
The bench upheld the case moved by K. Mallaiah and six others alleging that the authorities had allowed the construction of a building for the Mahila Swashakthi Sangham despite status quo orders.
The petitioners said the authorities tried to acquire their lands for constructing the Mahila Sangham building and the court had granted a stay but the authorities allowed construction.
The bench found former collectors Sandeep Sultania, Ms G. Aruna, DEO Rameswara Raju, district panchayat officer V. Venkateswarlu, executive engineer A.V. Varaprasad, Chelluru village secretary K. Rajamouli and Mahila Swashakthi Sangham president Harichand guilty of contempt.
The bench imposed Rs 2,000 fine each on Sandeep Sultania, Ms G. Aruna, Rameswara Raju and K. Rajamouli and Rs 1,000 fine on Harichand.
The bench sentenced district panchayat officer V. Venkateswarlu and engineer A.V. Varaprasad to 15 days imprisonment and Rs 2,000 fine. The bench suspended the order for a month to enable the convicted to appeal.
