KOCHI: The heavy rains that started early in the morning on Friday paralysed normal life in the city and outskirts. Vehicle movement was crippled due to bad and submerged roads, especially along the Metro corridor.
Regular commuters had a tough time reaching their destinations during the incessant rains. The heavy downpour abated for a few hours by noon but started pouring again after.
Traffic was affected along the Kaloor Kathrikadavu Road, a major alternative route to enter and exit the city.
Vehicles had to move at a snail’s pace through the Kathrikadavau Bridge due to potholes formed at the northern end. The Kerala water authority’s rep-air works near DD Tower, during heavy rains, also affected vehicle movement.
However, according to traffic police authorities, city traffic was not badly hit by the heavy downpour. “Traffic blocks were reported only from those areas where Metro works are on. Vehicle movement was normal in other parts of the city. No additional traffic wardens were deputed,” police authorities said.
Meanwhile, the city’s regular water-logged areas like MG Road, south railway station road and KSRTC bus stand were not affected much. Though the roads were flooded, water drained out immediately after the rains.
