Doctor won’t buy cops’ theory on dehydration after victims at Pushkaralu had died

Dr A Sulochana claimed that victims were brought dead to the hospital casualty
Hyderabad: A top government doctor on Friday rejected police’s claims that 15 out of 27 stampede victims at Godavari Pushkaralu had died due to dehydration. “All of them died in the stampede,” said Dr A Sulochana, superintendent of Rajahmundry Government General Hospital.
She claimed that victims were brought dead to the hospital casualty. “Doctors on duty in casualty based on respiration and other medical observation confirmed that they are brought dead,” Dr Sulochana said.
“As they were brought dead we don’t issue any death certificating citing cause of death,” she added. “Post-mortem examination was conducted by regular doctors who are eligible as no forensic doctors available. Based on the observations, I can say that none of them died due to dehydration,”
Police claimed that no water has been supplied to devotees who were waiting from the previous day morning till 8.30 am on July 14 and as it was temperature was hot, many of them died due to lack of drinking water.
A senior IPS official said, “Six bodies were found lying away from the stampede site.” East Godavari collector Arun Kumar also refuted the allegations and said water has been supplied to devotees from the day one.
