Chennai: A fresh set of commandments have been issued for police personnel posted for CM’s route security. Secretariat security instructions also point out that cops are not to use mobile phone while standing on the road waiting for the CM’s convey to pass or at the state secretariat. No standing together and indulging in unnecessary discussion,” the instruction further said. The directions were highlighted on the reverse side of the new pass issued to the police personnel on CM’s route bandobast and secretariat security.

“We have noticed many police personnel when deployed on CM’s route bandobast are busy on their mobile phones. They are either talking or texting or listening to music. Such acts give an impression that they are not alert. We want them to desist such activities,” a police officer said.The police have also been instructed to not allow anybody other than ministers, senior government officers and those with official permission to stand in the area.

Also, they have to ensure that convoy vehicles are parked properly without causing hindrance to the flow of regular traffic, the instructions said. As per the new directives, the cops on secretariat security duty have to ensure there are no abandoned or suspicious materials in the parking lot. The instructions also say that the police should not allow anybody without proper pass to enter the state secretariat. “Make sure that nobody is standing in the sterile area when the chief minister is arriving,” it said.

The police have also been asked to keep monitoring visitors as well those standing in the park opposite Fort St George. The cops on duty are also advised to show respect without fail to ministers and senior officials arriving at the secretariat.
