Youth claims developing app for women in distress
KOZHIKODE: Are women safe at night? That question has been a concern for a long time among the public, administration and also safety officers.
Perhaps some assistance will come through an alarm technology introduced by Thalassery native M Pradeep Kumar which helps women stuck at bus stands and railway stations at night to link directly with nearby police stations.
Pradeep Kumar, under the banner of Lions Club District 318 E, introduced the alarm technology named ‘Women Safety at fingertips’ (Sthree Suraksha Viral thumbil), enabling women to video conference with police officials so as to ensure their safety at night.
In the first phase, the Lions club representatives will install the first one at Vatakara bus-stand. Later, the alarm will be installed in busy places including railway stations and bus-stands.
“Kozhikode Rural SP, PH Ashraf, suggested the idea and later I developed the alarm for the Lions club, which has taken the initiative of introducing the technology to busy streets”, said Pradeep. The camera that will be set up next to the alarm installed at the location will help police track women who need help and then can help them reach their destination safely, he explained.
It was Pradeep Kumar who introduced the first electric stun gun for women’s safety in the State. The gun is a mobile phone like equipment that can be used to create 5000 Walt of electric shock that will immobilize attackers for about 30 minutes. Pradeep has been working on new technologies to ensure women safety for a long time.
