Wall paintings project to be over by Onam
Thiruvananthapuram: After over an year-long impasse, Arteria - the ambitious plan of the Tourism Department to beautify the capital city with wall painting - is finally catching pace.
The tourism authorities have decided to finish the project before Onam and have invited Expression of Interest from artists to make the project a reality.
As part of the scheme, the walls from Kowdiar to East Fort will be painted with mural and contemporary art.
The initiative aims at educating the younger generation on the legacy, history and growth of Kerala through paintings.
To begin with, about 8000 sq ft wall of University Stadium will be painted with emphasis on heritage, history, culture and tourism.
District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has invited interested artists to pitch in their ideas in canvas which would be scrutinised by the panel appointed by the authorities.
A sum of Rs 100 per square feet is the remuneration announced by the authorities and the artist should finish the painting before August 20.
An artist can submit more than one painting for the initiative. Tourism Minister A P Anil Kumar launched Arteria in August 2014. However, the initiative never took off owing to fund crunch.
