Telangana has rights over 9.53L TMC godavari water reserves, says CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao
Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Thursday reiterated that Telangana has absolute right over utilising 953 thousand million cubic feet (TMCs) of Godavari water reserves and directed officials to redesign irrigation projects accordingly.
Mr Rao on Thursday held a review meeting for over six hours with ministers and senior officials to review the irrigation projects being taken up by the TS government over the Godavari river.
He asked officials to devise plans to ensure that each Assembly constituency in the Godavari basin gets irrigation facility for one lakh acres.
Mr Rao said there were 54 constituencies in the Godavari basin. Of which four were urban constituencies, while 50 are rural.
“Our prioririty should be on providing irrigation facility to one lakh acres land in each of the 50 rural constituencies, totalling 50 lakh acres. Of this, 10 lakh acres are being irrigated through existing projects. We should devise projects to use 400 TMCs of Godavari water to irrigate the rest of 40 lakh acres,” Mr Rao said.
