Boy falls to death in Don Bosco school

Boy from the top of the asbestos roofed structure near the third floor

Chennai: A 14-year-old boy student of Don Bosco Matriculation higher secondary school in Egmore died after he fell from the third floor of the school building on Thursday evening. The class IX student, Aadith Kumar, slipped from the top of the asbestos roofed structure near the third floor terrace after school hours on Thursday, the police said.

The boy was the son of Kathiravan, a resident of Mannar Street, T Nagar who is related to the family of late DMK leader Aladi Aruna. Aadith may have gone to the terrace with two other boys to play. He had climbed on to the asbestos roof from where he slipped and fell to the ground. Injured badly in his head, he was rushed to a private hospital in Thousand Lights where he succumbed to injuries later in the evening.

Initial enquiries by police team headed by the joint commissioner of police (east) indicated that the boys went up to the terrace on the third floor to play and Aadith Kumar slipped accidentally from the top of the asbestos sheet.

"Right now we don't think there was any kind of fight between the kids. We would, however, enquire into it. We are also trying to see if the school management could have prevented the accident if they had taken precautionary measures. There will be a detailed enquiry into the incident," a senior police official said.
