After Maggi, Top Ramen too in soup
A notice would be served on the company
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After Maggi, Top Ramen is in the soup. The Commissionerate of Food Safety is gearing up to press criminal charges against Indo-Nissin, the manufacturer of Top Ramen noodles, following reports proving that the product is unsafe.
Food Safety Joint Commissioner (Enforcement) D. Ashraf said that a notice would be served on the company. “We will give them soem time to get their product analysed at the central food laboratory. Once the result comes, we will take a criminal case (sic) and issue an order asking them to withdraw the product from the market,” said Mr Ashraf.
The sample of Top Ramen was collected from Alappuzha district following suspicion. Mr Joseph Shaji George, Assistant Commissioner (Enforcement), Alappuzha, said that unlike Maggi, the lab result showed that the product is substandard.
“In the case of Maggi, it was high lead content but here the product itself is substandard and doesn’t match any of the food safety standards. We are following up the case and will ensure that this product is not sold anywhere in the market,” he said. The authorities are also gearing up to submit a report to the centre.
