33 IVF babies born in a week in Karimnagar
In-vitro fertilisation (IVF) babies were born to childless parents
KARIMNAGAR: As many as 33 in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) babies were born to childless parents belonging to various parts of Telangana at a city-based IVF Centre in Karimnagar between July 9 and 16. The management of the Centre claimed that it was the highest number registered by any IVF clinic in India.
Speaking to newspersons here on Thursday, Dr. B. Padmaja, of Padmaja Fertility Centre, said that 33 IVF babies, some of them triplets and twins, were born to a batch of mothers who were having the problem of infertility and tried to conceive through different methods.
“The largest number of IVF babies’ births recorded by a centre was 27. Our centre created a history by registering 33 IVF births in a week with about 90 per cent success rate,” she claimed. The process of IVF began for the batch of the mothers in December, 2014. Eggs were collected and were fertilised with sperms.
Then, embryologists, hired from London, injected the embryos into the wombs of the women. The pregnant women were under constant supervision of doctors belonging to the Centre. In particular, taking care of the mothers who conceived triplets was a herculean task, explained the doctor, who started the Centre in Karimnagar 15 years ago.
Among the women who gave birth to triplets and babies was a 48-year-old one from Odyaram in Karimangar mandal. Another woman aged 37 belongs to Medak district. A 35-year mother of twins thanked Ms. Padmaja for helping to realize her dream—to have children. “Health condition of the newly born babies is good and they weigh somewhere between 1.7 kilo grams to 2 kilo grams,” stated the doctor.
