Playback singer V Ramakrishna passes away

He had been suffering from cancer

Playback singer V. Ramakrishna passed away on Thursday at his residence in Jubilee Hills. He had been suffering from cancer. Born in Vizianagaram in 1947, Ramakrishna had learnt classical music from Nedunuri Krishna Murthy. He sang for nearly 200 films. His son Sai Kiran is an actor and playback singer P. Suseela is his maternal aunt.

Ramakrishna used to sing for All India Radio. With the encouragement of Ghantasala, he became a playback singer. His first film was Vichitra Bandham in 1972. In the initial days, he would sing for Sobhan Babu and then for Akkineni Nageswara Rao. He also sang for N.T. Rama Rao and Krishnam Raju. Some of the hit films he sang for were Sarada, Chakravakam, Andala Ramudu, Mutyala Muggu, Secretary, Chakradhari, Amara Deepam, Karunamyudu and Srimadhvirata Pothuluri Veerabrahmendra Charitra.
