Jayalalithaa shows up at secretariat
Chennai: Ending speculations about her health, Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Wednesday arrived at Fort St George. Hundreds of party cadres and functionaries thronged the state secretariat to greet the party supremo and waited till she left the power corridors after a brief stay.
Ms Jayalalithaa gave away appointment orders to five persons out of a total of 1,006 recruited as assistant professors in state-run colleges and also kickstarted free bicycle distribution scheme silencing the Opposition parties that have been demanding reasons for the AIADMK leader skipping a few events over the last few days.
According to secretariat sources, the Chief Minister who arrived by 1.10 pm had discussions with the chief advisor to the government Sheela Balakrishnan and chief secretary K. Gnanadesikan before signing a few files. She also conducted a brief review with a few ministers.
On her return, the Chief Minister’s convoy also stopped for a few seconds to interact with the party men and functionaries who had gathered in front of the Poes Garden residence. She waived her hands to waiting crowd that thundered puratchi thalaivi amma vazhga.
Later in the evening, the AIADMK supremo also interacted with senior ministers and top party functionaries, enquiring about ongoing party campaign measures across the state, AIADMK sources said. Party workers said they were expecting a few changes at the organisational level of the party.
