After stampede, many prefer bhadrachalam
Tuesday’s stampede in Rajahmundry had a fallout effect on Bhadrachalam on Wednesday as more pilgrims from East and West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Krishna, Guntur and Nellore districts came here for a holy dip in Godavari. There was more rush on Wednesday with nearly 2 lakh devotees bathing in the river. Thousands of devotees arrived till in the night in Bhadrachalam. The pilgrims took the holy dip even in the rain.
Private cabs make hay
The rush to the Godavari Pushkaram has increased the demand for private cabs and taxis in the city. Devotees taking private mode of travel resulted in increase in charges by 15 to 30 per cent. Most cab companies have seen prior booking leaving almost no ‘available slots’, the option for booking long distance routes are available at higher costs. According to insiders the Pushkaram rush has resulted in many firms pulling back cabs from short distance routes and deploying them on long distance ones.
