Rahul Gandhi meets state Congress leaders in Delhi
Hyderabad: In all probability Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will raise the cash-for-vote scam as well as the issue of ruling parties in Telangana and AP encouraging mass defections of opposition legislators without insisting on resignations, in coming the Lok Sabha session.
The AICC vice president on Wednesday made this assurance to the state Congress leaders who met him in Delhi. Mr Gandhi asked leaders of state units to furnish five names from each state, so that he can pick names to form a team to monitor party activities.
Mr Gandhi held consultations with key leaders of party units from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Goa in Delhi on Wednesday. Though Mr Gandhi did not inform the leaders about his anointment as AICC president, which is likely to happen in September this year, the party leaders got wind of this as Mr Gandhi decided to chose his own team once he is given the top post in the Congress.
AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh also held detailed discussions with party leaders before all of them met Mr Gandhi and inquired about the latest political situation in their states.
The meeting with AP party leaders focussed on the Mr Gandhi’s padayatra programme on July 24 in Anantapur district, which is also the home district of APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy.
Mr Gandhi also inquired about the Pushkaralu mishap from Mr Raghuveera Reddy and Leader of Opposition in the AP Legislative Council C. Ramachandraiah.
Mr Gandhi will take up the Padayatra from Obula Devuni Cheruru to Kondakamarla in the Putaparthy Assembly segment.
At the meeting, Mr Raghuveera Reddy reiterated the party’s demand seeking the resignation of N. Chandrababu Naidu as AP Chief Minister as he was directly responsible for Tuesday’s mishap that saw 27 Pushkar devotees killed and several others injured at the Pushkar ghat in Rajahmundry.
Mr Raghuveera Reddy said Congress leaders will register a complaint in Rajahmundry against the Chief Minister holding him responsible for the mishap. He also appealed to AP High Court to take up the issue suo motto.
From the Telangana side, TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Leaders of the Opposition in the Assembly and Council K. Janareddy and Shabbir Ali attended the meet and requested Mr Gandhi to visit the state again.
However, Mr Gandhi said his July visit is confined to Anantapur only and he promised to visit Hyderabad or Warangal before the local body polls for GHMC, Warangal and Khammam Municipal Corporations.
Mr Uttam Kumar Reddy said Mr Gandhi is likely to visit Telangana in August.
