Cops did not post pics of girls on social media: Ramesh Chennithala
Raju Abraham also raised doubts about the alertness of the police
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home minister Ramesh Chennithala said that, contrary to general perception, the police had not splashed pictures of the three plus-two girls from Konni on the social media.
“Their pictures were shared only through Police’s official communication channels, that too after taking the permission of the parents,” the minister said in the Assembly on Wednesday.
The minister was responding to a submission moved by CPM member Raju Abraham. “The government will have to introspect whether it was right to put up the pictures of the girls on the social media,” Mr Abraham said.
The minister said that there were doubts that the girls had been to Delhi, Bangalore and Nagercoil. “So as part of tracing their movements, the Kerala Police had intimated their counterparts in all these places. But the pictures were sent only through official communication channels. And before doing this, the parents of the girls were also taken into confidence,” the minister said.
Raju Abraham also raised doubts about the alertness of the police. “The mother of Raji (one of the girls) had told the police about a phone call they had received. But the police called the number only half an hour after the mother provided the information,” he said.
