Gunmen fire near Gurgaon mall, 1 dead

Four or five unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on an SUV
New Delhi: An autorickshaw driver was shot dead and two others were injured, one critically, after four or five unidentified gunmen opened indiscriminate fire on an SUV with a murder accused on board near a Gurgaon mall on Wednesday morning.
This left local residents in panic while hundreds of commuters were stranded due to a traffic pileup that took many hours to sort out, after the SUV toppled over an auto. Initial investigations indicate a gang rivalry led to the shooting.
The Gurgaon police said Rakesh Hayat, 35, involved in at least 16 heinous crimes, including murder, left his Beverly Park flat in a Hyundai Santafe (HR26CL3614) to attend a court hearing. Driver Hans Raj and cousin Hetram were with him.
“When the SUV reached the Central Mall right turn, 4-5 men standing by the road started firing bullets targeting Rakesh,” a senior police officer said.
“Rakesh managed to get off the car and run away, while one of the bullets hit Hans Raj in the head, due to which he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a parked Toyota Etios,” he added.
“As Hans Raj had accelerated in a bid to escape, the SUV, after hitting the Etios, hit the central verge and ascended a few feet before landing on an auto,” the police said.
“The auto driver, though, managed to get out, but suffered minor injuries on his head.” The assailants fled in a silver Santro that was waiting for them nearby.
A passerby made a PCR call and a crime team arrived at the spot soon. As the police inspected the crime scene, they found another auto driver lying dead. He was later identified as Kapil Dang, a resident of Gurgaon, and he had a bullet injury in his head. “He must have got hit in the firing,” a senior police officer said. His body has been sent for autopsy.
Driver Hans Raj was in an extremely critical condition. The investigating officials said Rakesh Hayat, on whose statement a case has been filed, has named two possible suspects. Three of the four-five gang are believed to have opened fire.
